A Weekend with Nature: Eden Nature Park & Resort Review

In mid-September last year, our family went on a nature/adventure trip and spent 3 days and 2 nights (over the weekend) at the Eden Nature Park & Resort in Davao City. It was my birthday celebration and I needed a break from all the “adulting” that I’ve been doing the past few months. I’m talking about career, being a mom and a wife, bills and responsibilities..the list is endless!

We booked a cottage (we got the Vista cottage that’s good for 2 people and a child) through Agoda.com because I’m an SM Advantage card holder and I get points for booking hotels through their site. Also, I’ll share with you a secret: You get better treatment (and rooms) when you book through travel sites like these because you’ll be asked to give a review after your stay. 🙂

The travel from our place to the resort took about a little more than hour. We rode a cab and did not use the taxi meter. The driver agreed for us to pay 1,000 PHP with selected stops along the way – we had to stop for breakfast and to buy snacks.

Checking in was a breeze since they were already expecting us. The front desk ladies were all very accommodating and friendly. They offered to store our luggage while we wait for our room to become available. To be fair, we did arrive really early so we decided to take a walk around the playgrounds instead while waiting. They also offered to take our photos and asked us if we’d like to schedule our tour that day or the next.

Here’s how the Vista cottages look. These photos were from their official Facebook page (I forgot to take a photo of our cottage from the outside).

When viewed from the front.

The view at the back where the room opens to a terrace overlooking a hiking trail and a small stream.

And here’s a shot from inside our cottage:

I could get used to waking up to a view like this every morning!

Our cottage was really clean, the fridge was stocked with the usual items (coffee, cream, sugar, water), the bathroom is filled with the necessary toiletries and there were fresh towels and an extra roll of tissue. I loved it!

We spent the first afternoon in the playground. During my last visit, which was about 4 years ago, the playground was just wide empty field. It’s nice that they’ve added a lot of stuff so children could also play around and have fun. Our toddler had so much fun whenever we stayed in the playground.

Overlooking the playground is the restaurant where buffet breakfasts and dinners are served. Buffet breakfasts are included in our room reservation so we only had to pay for lunch, dinner, and snacks. There are a lot of options to choose from for breakfast and dinner and I especially love their salad greens because they’re guaranteed fresh. They grow their own vegetables! As for their meat dishes, I find that some of them are a bit bland or a tad too tough.

Here are some of the activities we did on our second day:

Horseback Riding

Sky Rider and Skycycle

I’m amazed at how well-trained the staff assigned in these rides are. They know how to keep you calm and encourage you to keep going. The Skycycle was totally scary at first and though it was just a few minutes of pedaling your way across on a bike that’s on a thin cable, it felt like forever for me. 😀 The staff were also trained to make sure they take lots of photos and videos for you. We were very pleased with that.

On our third day, we decided to try their swimming pool even though it was cold, because we’re weird like that.

The swimming pool is nestled among tall trees and all you hear are birds and crickets. It’s unusual but really nice. What’s even better is they have extra towels ready for us.

We did a lot more things/activities during our stay. We joined the tour twice because it was raining the first time we went, we tried the Indiana Jones, we went to the butterfly garden and visited all the caged birds. It was an adventure so exciting it made me forget to take photos of everything!

Our stay at Eden Nature Park & Resort was indeed very delightful and relaxing. I’d say it’s one of the perfect spots to stay in if you’d like to get away from the stress and hustle of the city. We went there aiming to sharpen our blades and we left feeling ready to take on the world as adults again.

1st Wedding Anniversary: Marco Polo Davao Staycation

Yes, I know, this post is way overdue as we had our 1st wedding anniversary 2 months ago. We’ve been so busy these past months that I did not have the time to write a new entry for my blog. Now that I do have a little bit of time in my hands, I can finally write about how (and where) we spent our 1st anniversary. We had been planning about this since late last year and though we didn’t have a clear idea of where we might be spending our short vacation, we did have a list of things we wanted to be able to do. We wanted to have dinner at a buffet restaurant (Cafe Marco was our first option), go night swimming in a private pool, and really just relax. We also did not want to have to travel far in order to do those things because we’d have our baby with us. So, we decided to go on an overnight stay at the Marco Polo Hotel, Davao. Here are the pictures for when we arrived at the hotel and processed our accommodation. (We booked our room online.)

The process was really smooth and the front desk staff was very nice. In just a few minutes, we were handed our card/keys and we were on our way to our room.

Dinner at Cafe Marco.

The things I like most about our stay in Marco Polo Davao:

  • Very friendly staff
  • The hair dryer actually works
  • Hot and cold shower works too
  • We were able to get fresh towels every time we went to the pool
  • Room service was prompt
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

What I didn’t like though were:

  • The mattress of the crib provided to us was lumpy and really uncomfortable. It really wasn’t even a mattress, just some folded blankets.
  • Food at Cafe Marco did not meet our expectations, most especially the dessert.

We were very happy and satisfied that we were able to do the things we wanted to do on our special day. It was definitely an amazing staycation!

DOSE of Colors Kiss of Fire: THE Perfect Red (Liquid) Lipstick?

When a girl needs something to step up her looks but doesn’t have the time to put in the extra effort, a red lipstick is the perfect solution. There’s something about wearing a red lipstick that makes a girl feel feminine but bold and daring at the same time. The only real problem is choosing the right SHADE.

As someone who just doesn’t have the time to scour the entire makeup section to look for that perfect shade, I kept putting off buying a new red lipstick. Good thing I came across this red liquid matte lipstick – DOSE of Colors Kiss of Fire. I’ve read good reviews about it and heard that it is comparable to Limecrime Velvetines. So, I gave it a try and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made (when buying makeup).

This is how the packaging looks like.

I’m not going to write in detail about ingredients and all of that because I honestly find that boring. It is worth noting though that the box says it’s VEGAN.

And here is how it looks on me.

What I really want to emphasize in this review is its lasting power. Does it really last a very long time just as promised? YES! Yes, it does! It’s my first time trying it on and I didn’t really use a lip liner (I have yet to get one) so it’s a plus that it stayed on as long as it did, sans the lip liner.

My husband and I went out for a meal at a local buffet restaurant and when we got home, the lipstick is still there looking like I just put it on.IMG_2075

If you’re wondering about the shade (I think my phone camera did not do it justice), it’s a really deep red. I really don’t know how to describe it but I think it’s perfect for a wide range of skin tones. It definitely is worth trying out.

Now, if you’re thinking of buying one for yourself, you might be in for a little disappointment. This product gets SOLD OUT in the US pretty quickly! I guess that’s how popular this product is right now. I got mine from a trusted online seller. You can check her FB page HERE.

If you already have this lipstick and have actually tried it on, let me know how it worked for you. Feel free to leave your comments below. Ciao!

I noticed that this blog post is being viewed very often, once or twice every day, and I think a lot of girls and make up enthusiasts are interested in this product. So I’ve decided to update this post and elaborate further about it. Of course, I wasn’t paid by anyone to do this, although I do wish it is the case..sometimes. 🙂

The scent: It has this sweet, cupcake-y kind of smell that some might find plastic-y. But the scent is fine with me. I personally think it smells absolutely delish!

Ease of use: When I first wrote this blog post (about a year ago), I mentioned I did not use a lip pencil and that I was thinking of using one with it the next time. But I never did. I think it’s perfect on its own and using a lip pencil is not necessary. They key to being able to apply this on the lips smoothly is making sure you prep your lips properly. What I do is scrub my lips using my toothbrush (yes, seriously!). It works wonderfully. I usually define my cupid’s bow first, then outline the rest of my lips, then fill in. The applicator is easy to use but it’s easy to make mistakes and get product outside your lips too. So it’s not a lipstick you can put on while driving, basically.

Bang for your buck: Well, I’ve had it for a year now and I still have plenty of product in the tube. But to be fair, I don’t use it very often as I rarely go out and I do have other lipsticks too. Also, I dip the applicator in the tube only once, at most twice, when I wear it. That’s how pigmented it is and it takes just a little bit of product to cover my lips.

Staying power: I know I’ve already mentioned this but I think it’s worth talking about it again. I’ve tried wearing this while swimming in a pool (I was going for the retro/pin up girl look that time) and it stayed put the entire time.

Summary: Definitely worth the money! I’ve been thinking of trying out other liquid lipsticks and this one has indeed set the bar really high! I’m now honestly expecting to be disappointed when trying out a different brand. I have been looking out for other shades of the DOSE liquid lipsticks and I have my eyes set on two of the new ones. I hope they’re as great as my first one, the DOSE of Colors Kiss of Fire.

I hope you like the update on this review. Here’s a recent photo of me wearing the Dose of Colors Kiss of Fire liquid lipstick.

How I Started Working at Home

When my best friend and I got married and learned that we are going to have a baby, a thousand thoughts came rushing through my head. There were several questions I asked myself, but probably the most important one is “Who’s going to look after our baby?”. You might be surprised why I didn’t think of myself as the first candidate for this post. You see, I have worked in a BPO company for almost five years, so we also rely on my salary to meet our needs. With the baby on the way and our current expenses, I naturally thought that it would be better if I continue working. Most of my friends hired nannies and they were so lucky to have found someone very reliable. Someone they could trust enough to look after their precious child. I had no such luck. With only a few months before the start of my maternity leave, I realized I’m going to have to quit my job.

Good thing my sister, a virtual assistant for more than five years, suggested that I work from home. That way I could look after my baby and still have a steady source of income. It was a wonderful idea! It has been a month now since I started working in the comforts of my own home and I could definitely say that quitting my desk job has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life.

If you would like to earn while working at home, read on to know how I did it.

I logged on to onlinejobs.ph and created an account. Next, I searched for job offers that I thought would work out well with my schedule and sent my resume. It was that easy!

If you’d like to try it out, here are the steps to create an account:

1. Click “Register” at the upper right hand corner of the onlinejobs.ph home page.

2. Click the “I want to WORK” button.

3. Fill out the form. Be sure to include all necessary information. The more information you provide, the easier it will be for you to get a job. If you’re not sure about what to put in, you may hover your mouse over the question mark icon beside each item/question to see the suggestions.

Tip: It would be really helpful if you upload a valid ID. This would help increase your ID Proof. The higher your ID Proof is, the more likely it is that employers will look at your profile and hire you.

4. Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions.

Once your profile is complete, you can either wait until someone offers you a job or (I strongly suggest you do this) you can view all the jobs posted for a particular category and send your resumes. Just click on “Job Search” on the menu at the right side of your account page.

If you see a job offer that you like, you may send your resume or CV (whichever is required) by following the instructions listed on the job post.

You might be worried that you don’t have the required skills to get hired. Well, don’t fret just yet. There are a lot of categories to choose from and I suggest you look for job postings in the category you feel you are most skilled at. The available categories are: General, English, Marketing, Webmaster, Graphics, Programming, Finance & Management, Admin Support, and Real Estate. See, there’s really a lot to choose from!

If you really want to spend more time with your family while providing their needs, this could be the chance you’re waiting for. At least it was for me.

You can try it out and if you have questions, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll be sure to provide you answers. 🙂

Short Hair, Don’t Care!

Right after I gave birth to our pretty little daughter, I knew my life was never going to be the same again. And how right I was. For the first few months of our baby’s life, my whole world revolved around changing her diapers, breastfeeding, and putting her to sleep. I almost didn’t have time to eat or sleep, much less look after my hair. So when our baby was around 6 months old and we have established a sort of routine (where I could actually take a bath in peace), I started to think about having a make-over. Just like all moms out there, my body underwent a lot of changes and my biggest concern was my hair. I have always worn my hair straight and long and though it cost me a lot to have it stay that way, I didn’t mind at all. I had all the time I need to take care of it. Then a couple of months after our baby was born, several strands started to come off and everywhere I look, there’s hair. On the bed. On the floor. On the table. I was going crazy! I’d run my hand through my hair and I’d pull off a handful of loose strands. I thought I was really going bald! So I researched about it and I learned that it’s pretty normal for new moms to lose a lot of hair. The good thing is I will eventually grow them back. I was relieved and I thought that while waiting for this weird “shedding” to stop, it’s probably best if I cut my hair short so the hair loss won’t be as noticeable. 10639715_878445522186898_7993125659013746768_n Before I went to the salon, I asked my husband to take a photo of me. It might be a long time before my hair could look like this again, so I’ve got to have something to remember it by. So, this is me with my long straight hair. Yes, it was that long and for someone who has worn her hair long for several years, the idea of cutting it short could be, well, scary. I did think that maybe a short hairstyle might not look good on me but then my purpose outweighed my fears. I hardened my resolve and went to a salon at a local mall. The salon’s name was HAIRZONE and they are located at the third floor in Abreeza Mall. I was greeted by the receptionist and I told her that I’d like to cut my hair short. I showed her a picture of the hairstyle I wanted and she then introduced me to their hairstylist.

I sat down and all the while I was thinking “Am I really doing this?”. I was full of apprehension. I almost laughed when my stylist asked me “Ma’am, are you sure about this?”. She must have sensed my agitation. A part of me wanted to tell her that this was a mistake and that I have changed my mind but I couldn’t move. As I stuttered and grasped for words, I heard the scissors cut through a massive chunk of my hair. I guess she made the decision for me.

9768_878446062186844_1733178910901900310_n After an hour or so, I looked at myself and saw a different person. I felt different. For most girls, donning a new hairstyle is a sign of a new life and I guess that’s what the entire thing was for me. It has been six weeks since I started wearing my hair short and I absolutely love it. I do not have to spend so much time styling it and I don’t have to worry about hair fall as much anymore. I did not regret my decision. For me, it was more than just getting a new hairstyle. It’s like preparing for an entirely new journey. One that has a lot of surprises. A journey that would last a lifetime.
